The 2th RPOA-IUU Coordination Committee

The 2nd Coordination Committee Meeting RPOA was conducted in Lombok-Indonesia, 4-5 November 2009.workshop lombokThis meeting was attended by representatives of nine member countries to the Regional Plan of Action to Promote Responsible Fishing Practices including Combating IUU Fishing in the Region (RPOA) (Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam). The Philippines and Papua New Guinea were not able to attend the meeting. The meeting also attended by RPOA Advisory bodies, representatives from SEAFDEC and Worldfish Center. The main objective of the meeting was to review the work-plan developed in the 1st RPOA Coordination Committee Meeting and to develop the next year’s plan. The meeting reviewed and discussed the progress RPOA implementation, the continuing IUU pressures, and the responses of RPOA members to address those issues.
Indonesia will hold the RPOA Secretariat for another next 2 years (2010-2012). The next RPOA Coordination Committee meeting will be held tentatively in November 2010, in Vietnam subject to supporting arrangements. The outcome of the meeting is the RPOA workplan for 2010.
