The 7th RPOA-IUU Coordination Committee

The Regional Plan of Action to Promote Responsible Fishing Practices including Combating Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing in the Southeast Asia Region held their 7th RPOA-IUU Coordination Committee Meeting (CCM) in Cairns-Australia, 4-6 November 2014. The objective of the meeting are to discuss progress under the RPOA-IUU Work Plan 2013-2014, endorse the reports from the Subregional Groups, Review the overall progress and outlook of the RPOA-IUU implementation, identify new issues in the implementation of the RPOA-IUU and develop the RPOA-IUU Work Plan 2014-2015.

The meeting endorsed, adopted and noted several document such as (i) Rules of Procedure for 3rd Parties Attending RPOA-IUU Coordination Committee Meetings, (ii) RPOA-IUU Vessel Watch List, and (iii) Flag State Responsibilities and the Concept of Genuine Link.  In the Work Plan 2014-2015, RPOA-IUU participating countries agreed to implement FAO Global Record and PSMA, RPOA-IUU Vessel Watch List, Flag States Responsibilities, and strengthen Sub Regional and MCS. It was agreed that the next RPOA-IUU CCM will be held in Brunei Darussalam.

The RPOA-IUU also continue to provide the relevant platform to further showcase the region’s commitment to implementing responsible fishing practices and also to showcase our commitment to engage and cooperate with our global partners in the fight against IUU fishing.
